Private in the Revolutionary war, enlisted from Caswell Co. NC. 17 Jan 1778, serving under Capt. Reading Blount and Col. Robert Nebane in the NC Continental Est. He was taken prisoner at the capture of Charleston, SC. held one year, escaped, rejoined and was discharged. He was in several skirmishes. (Per Paul E. Lawrence)
